CO2 is added to Oxygen or ordinary air in artificial respiration equipment for medical purposes and to gases used in anesthesia. It is also added to the breathing devices used by divers, firefighters, etc.
Up to 5% CO2 is added to pure Oxygen (O2) for stimulation of breathing and to stabilize the O2 / CO2 balance in the blood.
